Tutoring Services

Everyone Is Welcome, Inc. was established in 1996 as a consulting company that provides an array of services to help increase the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all areas of life. As we continue to grow, we are constantly looking for new ways to better serve our clients. Starting this summer, we are expanding our services to include individualized, prescriptive tutoring and educational services that continue and expand upon your child's IEP goals.

Instructors at Everyone Is Welcome, Inc. are certified special education teachers with experience working with students with different learning abilities. Instructional areas include: Reading Decoding, Reading Comprehension, Math Computation, Math Reasoning, and Basic Writing Instruction. Below you will find a more detailed description of services offered.

Reading Decoding: The reading instruction pendulum has swung back and forth over whether reading should be taught by the whole language approach or through phonics instruction. Balanced literacy programs, now popular in schools, lean more toward the whole language approach, although some phonics instruction is included. Research, however, has shown that students with reading disabilities, whether it is dyslexia or an undefined reading disability, need a strong, multisensory phonetic reading program to develop essential reading skills.

At Everyone Is Welcome, Inc., our teachers use researched based, multisensory programs such as Wilson and Orton Gillingham. In these programs, students practice correct letter sounds, learn how to break down words into phonemes and morphemes to sound out unfamiliar words for reading and spelling, and complete rapid reading drills to increase fluency. Students develop confidence and begin to feel successful in reading almost immediately.

Reading Comprehension : Fully comprehending what they read is another problem area for many children. They may be able to read the words, but when the words form sentences, they hold little meaning. At Everyone Is Welcome, Inc., we use a guided reading approach. Using leveled texts based on reading levels, in both fiction and non-fiction, students learn strategies for comprehension one skill at a time. For example, students may first learn to determine the main idea of a passage, and them progress to identifying supporting details, cause and effect, sequencing, predicting outcomes, and more. Each skill is taught with reading strategies and graphic organizers to help support the students as they read. In addition, students work on vocabulary activities to help build word knowledge.

Math Computation : Math can become a difficult and frustrating task for many children. Math involves several skills, from applying math facts, to setting up problems correctly, using formulas, and completing steps to solve the problem in the proper order. If a child is deficient in any or all of these areas, their very best effort may still lead to failure. At Everyone Is Welcome, Inc., we first have students complete a skills assessment to better pinpoint areas of difficulty. Then with this information, along with the student's IEP, we can create a customized instructional plan that will specifically target these deficit areas. Students will practice math facts through daily practice, speed drills and games. Computation will be taught by introducing students to several different strategies that can be used to attack a problems, with the idea of finding the one that works best for them. By the end of summer, students will find math can be a lot of fun!

Math Reasoning : The words Word Problems will often elicit groans and sometimes tears from students from first grade all the way through high school. Word problems are often difficult because they require students to utilize reading comprehension skills as well as math computation skills in order to be successful. Teachers at Everyone Is Welcome, Inc., show students how to break down word problems to eliminate unnecessary information and find key words that will tell them what the question is asking and what needs to be done to solve it.

Written Expression : From writing simple sentences to writing five paragraph essays, students will work with Everyone Is Welcome, Inc. teachers to learn the sequential steps for effective writing.

Progress Monitoring : Each week your child's progress will be monitored through AIMSWeb, a curriculum based measurement tool that tracks and charts progress towards a present goal, such as reading words per minute or number of math facts. These goals are developed from national standards.
